The Last Decade of SEC Football, According to Facebook

Next week we begin a new decade of Southeastern Conference football, but before we do, I thought perhaps you’d like to look back at the previous ten years, Facebook style. And while you’re here, how about purchasing my new book, God and Football: Faith and Fanaticism in the SEC. It’s as funny as the blog, but you have to pay for it, so you’ll appreciate it more. (Oh, and if the picture is a little small, try clicking on it to enlarge)

London to Home

Saturday July 17th – The British insist on trying serve us tomatoes and beans for breakfast, I’m not sure what part of Lucky Charms they don’t understand. We spent most of Saturday with the Queen. Nice lady, very down to Earth. She insisted we take one of her Corgis home with us, so we said we would, but sold it at a market in Notting Hill. Continue Reading…

Paris to London

Wednesday July 14th – Today was Bastille Day, the French National Holiday that celebrates something historic no doubt. Since the French love Americans, and we are American, they let us light the fuse on the big firework show at the Eiffel Tower. It went out though, and I refused to go blow on the fuse, so the masses went home disappointed.  But sometime late in the night the fuse caught again, and all of Paris was awaken to a spectacular show. They liked the surprise so much they changed the name of Bastille Day to Chad Night.   Continue Reading…

Venice to Paris

Saturday July 10th – Another day in Venice.  We were both sore from swimming everywhere on Friday, so today wedecided to use the sidewalks. Everywhere we go we are greeted with warm smiles and cold gelato. Some locals found out that I am a writer, and I was asked to conduct a symposium on The Sun Also Rises. We may have insinuated that I’m Ernest Hemingway’s grandson.   Continue Reading…

Rome to Florence to Venice

Wednesday July 7th – Today we went to the Spanish Steps, which are obviously in Italy, not Spain. The Italians, realizing we were Americans, gathered around us and wanted to know what Lady Ga Ga was like in person. I said she was tall, and the crowd once again broke into chants of “USA! USA!” It goes without saying we were offered free gelato. Continue Reading…

Roma

Sunday July 4th – We landed in Rome this morning at 7:00 AM. Everyone congratulated us on being American andwished us a happy 4th of July. Some children were even shooting bottle rockets and chanting, “USA! USA!”  Our check-in wasn’t until noon, but the hotel staff kicked some Slovakians out of their room and we were able to check in early. The rest of the day was spent recovering from jet-lag and eating gelato. Continue Reading…

Tricia and Chad’s Excellent Adventure

Tomorrow we leave for Europe. Specifically Rome, Florence, Venice, Glencoe, Paris, and London. We’ll be gone for 18 days, and I only own 10 pair of underwear, which might be a problem.

Other problems include our inability to speak French or Italian, and the fact that we can’t actually afford this vacation. In fact as of yesterday we have two houses, and zero jobs. But we do have a Capital One ‘No Hassle’ card, which I assume to mean we can pay for stuff with it, and they will never hassle us to pay them back. As far as the language barrier, I plan to just point and grunt. I hear the French particularly love that. Continue Reading…

The Doctor Will See Me Now

Tonight at 9:00 Tricia finishes the final shift of her medical residency. This means, after four years of medical school and three years of residency, I’m about to get my wife back! To celebrate we’ve decided to spend money we don’t have and take a trip to Europe, but before we leave I thought I should recap just exactly what Tricia has been through over the past few years…. It’s Alive

As you may recall, in April I managed to kill my entire lawn with some Weed & GRASS Killer.  Well, a bag of seed, a bag of fertilizer, and two months later, my lawn is looking about as good as it use to look.  Which isn’t great, but it isn’t the worse yard in the neighborhood, which is always my goal.
